Parking

car park

Much of the borough is Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) free, but parking can still be very limited.

We want to help you park safely and legally in Newham. There are a number of different ways we can meet your parking requirements.

Parking Spaces/Bays

Parking spaces are provided in locations where parking is safe and does not obstruct other road users. Parking spaces are marked on the road with white lines and will accommodate several vehicles. Bays make the best use of the available space, and are clearly signed to indicate who may park there. There are different parking bays for residents, businesses and disabled permit holders, along with specific bays for loading/unloading, short stay and pay & display.

Controlled Parking Zones

There are just 15 CPZs in Newham, all covering the five busiest areas of the borough: Beckton, East Ham, Manor Park, Stratford and Upton Park.

The 15 CPZs have different operational hours and days. Please take care to obey any other parking restrictions which may be in force outside of CPZ core hours. Where these apply, the restrictions will be marked by signs and/or lines clearly indicating the days and hours of restriction.

CPZ maps and hours of operation.

It is possible to suspend bays within CPZs. More information regarding suspensions.

Where there is no parking enforcement in place it is acceptable to cone an area to secure parking. Please note that coning has no legal force and you are advised to discuss this in advance with the Film Office.

Pay & Display Bays

Some bays in the CPZs are for Pay & Display users only. These are designated to assist shoppers and businesses, and may prove useful as filmmaker/film production parking. All vehicles parked in these bays must display a valid ticket purchased from a Pay & Display machine. The maximum stay is two hours. Additional payments must not be made to extend the parking period initially paid for. Not applicable in Resident Only zones.

It is possible to suspend Pay & Display bays. More information regarding suspensions.

Permits

There are different categories of parking permit for residents, disabled residents and businesses, however at this time none of these are applicable to filmmaker/film production parking.

In any case, there is more information regarding types of parking permits.

Restricted Parking

Yellow lines indicate where parking is not allowed. All restrictions are in force during the controlled hours unless signs indicate otherwise. A parking permit does not give an exemption to park on yellow lines.

It is possible to receive special dispensation for parking in areas. More information regarding dispensations.

Unit Bases

There are some unit base options in and around the borough, and we're always looking for more. If you need space for your unit, discuss your requirements with the Film Office.

If you're filming in Newham, be sure to specify your parking requirements in your application.
